Mehmet Barlas

Mehmet Barlas (* 1942 in Gaziantep ) is a Turkish journalist .

Barlas studied law at Istanbul University and since 1971 has worked for pretty much all of Turkey's major daily newspapers; including Cumhuriyet , Milliyet , Güneş , Tercüman , Hürriyet , Türkiye , Yeni Şafak , Zaman , Star , Akşam and Posta . He also worked for the state television broadcaster TRT and was the spokesman for ATV's main news program .

Barlas is currently (2017) working for the second time for the daily Sabah , which he had to leave in 1998 according to alleged statements of the PKK renegade Şemdin Sakık about financial donations. Barlas is one of the longest-serving and best-known journalists in the country and is now regarded as an "avowed fan" of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan . Some of his columns at Sabah also appear in English translation in their Daily Sabah branch , some also in German translation on their website. So far, Mehmet Barlas has published seven books on political topics.
