Anhalt milestone at Gollbogen

The milestone at Gollbogen is a small monument in the city of Zerbst / Anhalt in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in Saxony-Anhalt . Like all milestones, it is under monument protection , but cannot be found in the list of monuments .

location

Southwest of the Fläming in the former Anhalt-Zerbst on the main road 57, the combination of Zerbst to the federal highway 246 gen Wiesenburg / Mark he is northeast of Goll arch on the east side of the street. The corresponding II myriameter stone is located near Reuden / Anhalt .

History and shape

All of Anhalt was equipped with milestones in the early 1850s , the counting of which began at the castle in Dessau and extended across all major streets. These stones were spaced 7532 meters apart, since the Anhalt mile corresponded to the Prussian mile . In the early 1870s, Anhalt had to be re-measured twice: once for the changeover to the new mile, which corresponded to 7500 meters, which resulted in only minor shifts, and shortly afterwards for the changeover to kilometers.

In Anhalt-Zerbst, the decision was made to use myriameter stones for this second conversion, i.e. stones every 10 kilometers. The milestones could be reused because they were closer together. Therefore, most of the myriameter stones in Anhalt are former milestones. However, they cannot be clearly distinguished from new creations, as these were structurally identical. They each followed the Prussian type of round base stone that had been in use since the 1830s.

While in other parts of the country the stones probably remained at their previous location, they seem to have been moved here, as they are in positions that correspond to smooth myriameters. The last inscription on the 80 centimeter high granite stone was probably Zerbst 10.0 km , but it was difficult to read and was changed to I Myriameter von Zerbst during a restoration in 2000 . The zero point of the kilometers on the road also seems to have been changed later, as the kilometer stone 9.6 was next to the milestone.
