Milestone (Groebzig)

Anhalt milestone between Gröbzig and Pfaffendorf

The milestone at Gröbzig is actually closer to Pfaffendorf than to Gröbzig , but the name has become common after the small town. Both places now belong to the city of Southern Anhalt in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in Saxony-Anhalt .

There are five Anhalt milestones stating that Köthen is one mile away and Dessau is four miles. The specialty of the distance indicator at Gröbzig is that it shows the miles to Dessau not as a Roman IV , but as a Roman IIII . The indication of the distance to Dessau shows the road, now the L 147 , as a secondary road, because the main connection to Anhalt went from Dessau via Köthen to Bernburg and on to Harz . Their four-mile stone is now in Kleinpaschleben . The small monument is 96 centimeters high and is two kilometers east of Gröbzig on the north side of the road. The choice of red sandstone is unusual, and traces of paint from an earlier lettering can also be seen.

The listed , Anhalt round base stone bears the registration number 094 06163 in the monument register. There was probably no five-mile stone in the continuation of the street, as Anhalt is too small for it. The three-mile stone in or near Köthen has not been preserved, the two-mile stone is near Porst . Anhalt milestones can be proven for the first time in 1853, i.e. relatively late. Twenty-five years later, the length measure, which had been working analogously to the Prussian for a long time, was changed to kilometers.
