Milestone (Berga West)

Prussian milestone in Berga

The milestone in Berga is a small memorial in the community of Goldene Aue in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt .

To the west of Berga is the whole milestone on Landesstraße 151 , which owes its existence to the Prussian State Office from Berlin to Kassel and which was at times part of Bundesstraße 80 . The Chaussee had its origin at Dönhoffplatz in Berlin, which is why the main inscription is Berlin 32 miles . A Prussian mile corresponds to 7.532 kilometers. So we are more than 240 kilometers by road from the center of Berlin.

The section from Langenbogen to Nordhausen was created between 1824 and 1826. Typical of the milestones that are located at full mile positions is the indication of the distance to the respective neighboring town. In this case Nordhausen is 2 miles and Sangerhausen is 2 7/8 miles . It has not yet been possible to determine why the distance stone is not on the list of monuments . Like all milestones in Saxony-Anhalt, the stone is a listed building .

It consists of Kyffhäuser sandstone and was restored in 2001, whereby it also received a new eagle plate. A special feature of the stones placed on the Chaussee around 1826 is that the stone never had to be moved or lifted.
