Milestone at Lingenau

The milestone near Lingenau is a small monument in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in Saxony-Anhalt .

In the Mosigkauer Heide there is a myriameter stone to the west and east of Autobahn 9 . The stone west of the A 9 is 1.2 kilometers northeast of Lingenau , and both stones belong to the corridor. It is on the western side of the street at Landesstrasse 141 . The history of both distance indicators is closely interlinked and so not only do they each bear the inscription 1 MYRIAMETER by DESSAU in a recessed writing field, but both stones are former milestones that were implemented in the kilometer system after 1874.

The Greek word myrias means 10,000 . These stones were therefore at a distance of 10 kilometers from Dessau . Just like the milestones, the myriameter stones were oriented towards the Schlossplatz in Dessau. The first mention of the Anhalt milestones is closely linked to this point in the forest, because in 1853 a police report said that the newly constructed milestone between Heidekrug and Bobbau was knocked over. Obviously, this is one of the two stones. This one was at the position II miles from Dessau , the other at the position I mile from Dessau . The Anhalt mile corresponded to the Prussian mile , so it was 7.532 kilometers long and this 15 kilometer distance is reached between Heidekrug and Bobbau.

Like the stone further east, the distance indicator at Lingenau is 60 plus 30 centimeters high and the foot is noticeably wider than the shaft. The Anhalt round base stone is under monument protection and is recorded in the monument register with the number 094 96895. This stone also had an information board (as with Heidekrug) until 2017 stating that it was a myriameter stone that was erected in 1874. In 2015 the stone was severely damaged by a cutter bar. The separated corner was recovered and documented in the Museum of Natural History and Prehistory in Dessau. When it was re-erected after the renovation, it was placed on a paving platform - like the stone near Heidekrug .
