Milestone Heidekrug

The milestone Heidekurg is a small monument in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district in Saxony-Anhalt .

In the Mosigkauer Heide there is a myriameter stone to the west and east of Autobahn 9 . The stone to the east of the A 9 is 500 meters south of the Dessau Süd motorway exit on federal highway 184 on the western side of the road, where it sank deep into the embankment. During road construction work in 2015, it was raised and placed on a paving platform closer to the road. On this one, however, its damaged condition stands out even more. Larger parts have flaked off the back.

The 60 centimeter high stone has a 30 centimeter high foot that is a few centimeters wider than the actual shaft. According to the information board placed behind the ditch, it is a myriameter stone that was erected in 1874. This seems to be confirmed by his inscription ( 1 MYRIAMETER from DESSAU in a recessed writing field). However, it must be assumed that it is a repurposed milestone .

The word myrias comes from the Greek and means 10,000. These stones were therefore at a distance of 10 kilometers from Dessau . Just like the milestones , the myriameter stones were oriented towards the Schlossplatz in Dessau. In 1853 the police reported that the newly built milestone between Heidekrug and Bobbau had been knocked over. Obviously, this is one of the two stones. This one was at the position II miles from Dessau , the other at the position I mile from Dessau . The Anhalt mile corresponded to the Prussian mile , so it was 7.532 kilometers long and this 15 kilometer distance is reached between Heidekrug and Bobbau.

The implementation of the milestones in Anhalt in the kilometer system can be documented on various stones. So, at the milestone in Kleinpaschleben specifying 10 kil. from Koethen next to two miles. The milestone at Porst also has an additional kilometer indication. Milestones are in Saxony-Anhalt under monument protection . The Anhalt round base stone is recorded in the monument register with the number 094 90110.
