History and shape

The Anhalt milestones were set in the early 1850s. You can find them along all the important roads of the time. Whether there was such a milestone between Tochheim and Zerbst has not yet been definitively clarified, but it can be assumed. In the early 1870s, Anhalt was measured twice and the Prussian mile , which had also been valid here since 1841 , which corresponded to 7,532 meters, first became one mile to 7500 meters and then the kilometer replaced the mile. The round base stones were each reused.

In the course of this, the zero points were also changed. The Dessau residential palace was the zero point for the milestones , now it became the Zerbster Roland . The milestones in the former Anhalt-Zerbst were evidently rearranged, while in other areas they were partly left in their positions. Such a stone can be found near Tochheim. At last it bore the remains of an inscription 10 , which was analogous to the stone at Steutz 10 / KM / von Zerbst and was changed in 2000 to I / Myriameter / von Zerbst . This also officially turned the 70 centimeter high granite stone into a myriameter stone . A myriameter equals 10 kilometers.
