My friend is Sauerland is the title of a compilation with rock and pop bands from the Sauerland . The first CD under this motto was released in 1994, a second in 2006. The T-shirt of the same name was best known .

history

A compilation with regional rock and pop bands was released in 1994 under the motto Mein Freund ist Sauerländer . The T-shirt of the same name soon caused a stir, which was actually only intended as a publicity stunt, but quickly became independent. British radio DJ John Peel wore the shirt on the cover of a biography published shortly after his death. In 2006 this was the reason to re-launch the campaign. A call to be photographed with the T-shirt was followed by people from the USA and New Zealand, among others. A Nigerian football club used the shirts as jerseys . In 2009 the Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote :

"North Hesse, Münsterländer and East Frisians wear them to support the region."

For the second edition of the sampler, the song Sauerland by the band Zoff was sung in public on July 26, 2006. A planned live broadcast of the WDR failed due to a thunderstorm.

A festival that was supposed to take place in Brilon in July 2019 under the motto My friend is Sauerländer was surprisingly canceled in January 2019.
