My little child is a German autobiographical documentary by midwife and filmmaker Katja Baumgarten, in which she documents her pregnancy with a disabled child up to its birth and death.

content

After Katja Baumgarten found out during an ultrasound examination in the 21st week of pregnancy that her unborn child had a complex malformation syndrome with a suspected chromosomal abnormality , she decided against an abortion , even if the child's death during pregnancy or shortly after birth is very likely applies. Together with her friend, the camerawoman Gisela Tuchtenhagen , she documents her life during pregnancy. She decides to have the child at home with friends and family and to forego life-prolonging medical measures. Her son dies three and a half hours after the birth.

Reviews

“Restrained, almost meditative study of an extreme life situation, which through concentrated formal design becomes a deeply moving document of humanity. Less a weapon in the dispute over prenatal diagnostics than an emphatic contribution to the discourse on humane life and death. "
