Meinrad Lichtensteiner
Meinrad Lichtensteiner OSB (born January 18, 1759 in Vienna ; † May 2, 1834 there ; actually Joseph Lichtensteiner ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic schoolboy .
Life
Lichtensteiner entered the Scots Abbey in Vienna in 1778 , where he was ordained a priest in 1783. During this time he translated the Histoire ecclesiastique des Bonaventure Racine into German. Various pastoral care posts took him to Schottenfeld , Gaunersdorf , Höbersbrunn and Martinsdorf . In 1807 he was appointed prefect of the newly established Schottengymnasium on the orders of Emperor Franz I and held this position until his death. In 1820 he was appointed vice director of the Lower Austrian grammar schools . He was also dean of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Vienna in 1817 and 1823 , and rector of the same university in 1825 .
