supporting documents

He appears in a rock inscription dated under Mentuhotep II as a simple "sealer". From this position he was promoted directly to " Treasurer " - one of the highest government offices. With this title he is mentioned several times in the temple of Mentuhotep II. In his grave he also appears as the " chief asset manager for the whole country". It is controversial when he ended his career, so far this was under Mentuhotep III. suggested recently is, however, believed that he even to under I. Amenemhet officiated.

His grave

The grave of Meketre in Thebes was found destroyed, but the few surviving reliefs show that it was once magnificently decorated. A small chamber of the tomb was found untouched and contained a set of wooden models showing craftsmen, ships, but also the house of Meketre. These models are typical of Middle Kingdom burials. The models in the Tomb of Meketre are undoubtedly the best of their kind.
