Melanie Barbezat (born August 10, 1991 ) is a Swiss curler . She currently plays the lead in Silvana Tirinzoni's team .
Career
Barbezat began her international career after winning the Swiss Junior Championships at the 2012 Junior World Championships , where she led the Swiss team to eighth place as a skip. A year later she played for the Bern University of Applied Sciences at the 2013 Winter Universiade as a second in Michèle Jäggi's team . The Swiss women won the bronze medal. With this team she also played on the World Curling Tour and was able to win the International ZO Women's Curling Tournament there in 2012 .
From the 2014/15 season she led her own team as Skip with Carole Howard , Jenny Perret and Daniela Rupp . The team won the Dumfries Curling Challege 2014 and the International ZO Women Curling Tournament 2016 on the World Curling Tour . After the 2016/17 season, the team disbanded.
In 2018 she joined Silvana Tirinzoni's team to replace Marlene Albrecht as lead. With this team she reached the final at the 2018 European Championships in Tallinn and won the silver medal after a defeat in the final against Sweden (Skip: Anna Hasselborg ). The revenge was achieved at the 2019 World Cup : the Swedish curlers were defeated 8: 7 in the final, which meant the world championship title.
Private life
Barbezat works as a physiotherapist at a Swiss fitness center.
