Melanie Wilson (rower)

Melanie Kate Wilson (born June 25, 1984 in Southampton ) is a British rower .

Athletic career

Raised in Hong Kong, Melanie Wilson returned to England to study biochemistry and attended the University of Nottingham . In 2009 she switched to studying medicine at Imperial College London .

Also in 2009 Melanie Wilson rowed for the first time in the British national team. At the 2009 World Championships , she finished fifth with the British eighth . From 2010 Wilson joined with sculling boats on at the 2011 World Championships she reached the seventh place in the quadruple sculls . At the 2012 Olympics , she rowed the British double scull to sixth place.

In 2013 she switched back to oar rowing and finished fourth at the World Championships with the British eighth . After a year of study, Wilson returned to the rowing team in 2015 and finished fourth at the European Championships with the quadruple scull . At the World Championships , the British double scull reached eighth place. In 2016 she returned to eighth and won the title at the European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel ahead of the Dutch at the start of the season . At the 2016 Olympic Games , the US eight won ahead of the British European champions.
