Menard is the district capital and seat of the county seat of Menard County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located on the San Saba River , a little southwest of the geographic center of Texas, at the junction of US Highway 83 with US Highway 190 and has a total area of 5.3 km² without any significant water surface.

According to the 2000 census, 1,653 people in 666 households and 438 families lived here. The population density was 309.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 84.94% White, 0.67% African American, 0.60% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, and 11.98% other ethnic groups. About 1.39% were mixed race and 39.32% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 666 households, 31.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 50.2% of them were married couples living together. 10.8% were single mothers and 34.1% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were single households and there were people living in 20.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.03.
27.2% of the population were under 18 years old, 6.0% 18 to 24, 23.7% 25 to 44, 22.6% 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 97.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 87.5 men.
The median income for a household in the 19,698 USD , and the median income for a family 27,125 USD. Males had a median income of $ 21,094 versus $ 17,857 for females.
