action

After a few unsuccessful openings, Bob and his family reopened his hamburger restaurant Bob's Burgers . His son Gene is supposed to distribute burger samples outside, but drops them on the street and picks them up again to distribute them. The health inspector Hugo Habercore and his assistant Ron see this and then inspect the restaurant. There Hugo meets Bob's wife Linda, to whom he was engaged. He explains that the reason for his inspection is a rumor that the meat for the burgers is made from human remains from the crematorium next door. This rumor was spread by Bob's youngest daughter, Louise. As a result, a poster had to be hung in the shop window of the restaurant saying that the meat could contain human flesh.

Due to one of Gene's antics, a corpse from the crematorium ends up in Bob's restaurant, so Hugo informs the media. Bob tries to convince protesters that the rumor is not true, but inadvertently defends cannibalism . He tells Linda that he's a failure and that she would have better stayed with Hugo who, as she said before, is a better kisser than Bob. Linda makes it clear that she left Hugo for Bob because Bob had a dream, but Hugo never. Louise apologizes for spreading the rumor.

Bob then decides he wants to keep grilling burgers when members of an exotic food club arrive who want to try human meat. Shortly afterwards, Ron announces the result of Hugo's examination of the meat, according to which it has only legal ingredients. Now that the restaurant is doing well, the family goes to the local theme park in the evening , where Bob and Linda celebrate their wedding anniversary and Bob demonstrates his newly acquired knowledge of kissing.

reception

The episode was seen by around 9.41 million households when it was first broadcast in the US and thus achieved a rate of 4.5 (11%) in the age group 18 to 49. This makes it the pilot episode with the highest rate of the 2010 television season / 11.

The episode received mixed reviews , with Metacritic giving an average rating of 53, which means “mixed or average review”. Jonah Krakow from IGN rated the episode with 7.5 out of 10 possible points and praised the children's performance. According to Krakow, “[the episode] did a lot of groundwork introducing the terrible Belcher kids - especially Louise Belcher [...] who claws at every line she gets. The rest of the episode felt like your average episode of other Sunday series on FOX, however, with the head of the family screwing up and making up for the rest of the episode. "Joel Keller wrote in his review for TV Squad:" Despite the impiety and weirdness There's a sweet undertone to it which makes the show more accessible than most of its cousins on [ Adult Swim ]. Oh, and it's damn funny too. "

Todd VanDerWerff of the AV Club gave the episode a positive review: “If Bob's Burgers were written by a writer no one had heard of before, it might not look like it has the potential to go in an interesting direction. But when Bouchard, Benjamin and Schaal are there, something marginal becomes something that is easily worth recommending. Bob's Burgers hasn't gotten there yet, but [the show] tries enough interesting things to be worth a look, and it wouldn't be a surprise if the chemistry is right and it turns out to be the best animated show quickly.
