Menthe - la bienheureuse is a Danish short film by the Danish director Lars von Trier from 1979. The film is based on Dominique Aury's sadomasochistic novel , Geschichte der O , and tells the story of voluntary female submission . The black and white production is the second work by the famous artist.

- The film was made as part of Triers' membership in Film Group 16 , a small group of filmmakers founded in 1964 in the small town of Hvidovre near Copenhagen , which pursued a non-commercial cinema concept and produced in 16 mm format.
- The literary model won the French literary prize Prix des Deux Magots in February 1955 .
- Aury wrote the novel under the pseudonym Pauline Réage and only publicly confirmed her authorship, which had only been rumored for decades, in an interview with the American magazine The New Yorker in 1994 .
