Mercury Falling is Sting's fifth studio album . It was released on February 26, 1996 via A&M Records . According to the awards, it has sold at least 2,250,000 times.

In 1997, Sting was nominated for two Grammy Awards , for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the song Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot .

The album was recorded in 1995 at Sting's Lake House and Steerpike Studios with Hugh Padgham . The album begins and ends with the words "mercury falling". The title Twenty Five to Midnight was not included on the US and Canadian releases. It was included as the fourth track on the You Still Touch Me CD maxi single . The song Valparaiso was used by Ridley Scott in 1996 during the credits of the film White Squall .

The album reached number two in the charts in Germany , top position in Austria and Switzerland and gold status in all three countries . In the UK and the US it reached platinum status in the UK in fourth place and fifth place in the United States of charts. The album was also number one in Finland and Italy , as well as in the European charts.

The Rolling Stone magazine wrote: " Mercury Falling is the plate of a man who has reconciled with his fieseren spirits, and the music neither himself nor the world has to prove anything." The songs were "not angry, not ambitious. But they're good for you. ”The rating was three out of five stars.
