instrumentation

What is striking about You Will Be My Ain True Love is the economical instrumentation. In addition to a drone of a harmonium that runs throughout the song , a few string instruments can be heard. This creates an Enya-like arrangement that combines 'crying' strings with a drone of a harmonium.

Awards

At the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes was You Will Be My Ain True Love each 2004 in the category Best Original Song nomination. In both cases, the award went to Into the West from the film The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King .

There were two nominations related to the song at the 2005 Grammy Awards , namely for Best Song Written for Film, Television or Visual Media (again, Into the West won ) and Best Female Vocal Performance - Country (this was where Gretchen Wilson received the Grammy for her performance in the song Redneck Woman ). In 2004, You Will Be My Ain True Love received the World Soundtrack Award in the Best Movie Song category .

Cover versions

Sting covered You Will Be My Ain True Love in 2010 on his album Symphonicities , for which he rearranged his most famous songs and recorded them with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra .

The film version appeared on a promo single for the Academy Awards in 2003. Alison Krauss released the song in 2007 on her album A Hundred Miles Or More: A Collection .
