Meriatum, Small Temple of Abu Simbel |
Meriatum was a son of the ancient Egyptian king Ramses II and his great royal wife Nefertari . He was the fourth and youngest son from this connection.
In the procession depictions of the Ramses sons he is mentioned in sixteenth place. Meritatum is depicted in the small temple of Abu Simbel , the Hathor temple of the Nefertari. In the Egyptian Museum in Berlin there are two statues of him and in the Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum in Hildesheim, a stele .
Meriatum bore the title “Great One of the Seeing”, was high priest in Heliopolis and held this office for about 20 years. Around the twentieth year of his father Ramses II's reign he visited Sinai . The work for his tomb and that of Isisnofret , the second great royal wife of Ramses II, are noted on an ostracon , which could indicate a burial in the vicinity of the Valley of the Queens . On the other hand, a fragment of a canopic with his name was found in the mass grave KV5 in the Valley of the Kings , so that his exact burial place is not certain.
