Meron Reuben (* in Cape Town , South Africa ) is an Israeli diplomat and was the 15th Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations in New York City between 2010 and 2011 . At the same time he is the Israeli ambassador for Colombia , an office he has held since 2007.

Reuben grew up in South Africa and the United Kingdom . In 1974 he emigrated to Israel. He served in the Israeli Air Force as an air traffic controller and then studied diplomacy and international relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , for which he received a bachelor's and master's degree.

From 1988 he began to work for the diplomatic service of the Israeli Foreign Ministry. In 1991 Reuben became First Secretary at the Israeli Embassy in Santiago de Chile . During his time in Chile he was awarded the Order of Bernardo O'Higgins , the highest honor the country bestows on foreign citizens. In 1995 Reuben became envoy at the Israeli embassy in Mexico City . After returning to Israel in 1997, Reuben worked in the Foreign Ministry as a consultant in the Department of Diaspora Affairs and the Department of Palestinian Affairs. From 2000 to 2002 he was Israeli ambassador to Paraguay and then from 2002 to 2003 he was ambassador to Bolivia . During his time in Bolivia he was also accredited as a non-resident ambassador to Paraguay . The move to Bolivia was necessary because the embassy in Paraguay had to be closed for financial reasons. A fate that soon overtook the embassy in Bolivia. In 2004 Reuben returned to Jerusalem , where he became an advisor in the Latin America and Caribbean department of the Foreign Ministry. In addition, he was Director of the Department of Planning and External Relations of MASHAV from 2004 to 2007 . In 2007 he was sent again as an ambassador. This time he was sent to Colombia. In September 2010 he also became Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York City, replacing Gabriela Shalev .

Reuben is married and has two daughters. He is fluent in English , Hebrew and Spanish .
