Merve Lowien

Merve Lowien (born February 17, 1937 in Berlin ; † 1992 there ) was a German writer and publisher .

Live and act

Merve Lowien worked from 1958 to 1962 as a chemical technician at the Hahn Meitner Institute for Nuclear Research in Berlin. In 1960 she married Peter Gente (1936–2014), with whom she had a son. Due to the lack of career prospects, after the birth of her son in 1962, she switched to housewife work and built up a foot care practice, which she ran until 1965. From 1966 she made up her Abitur at the Berlin College. There Lowien was chairman of a union student group, which was transferred to the SDS in 1968 . In 1969 she began studying journalism.

Together with her husband Gente, Rüdiger Möllering and Michael Kwiatkowski, Lowien co-founded Merve Verlag in 1970 , which was named after her. After 18 years, Gente separated from Merve Lowien and continued to run Merve Verlag with Heidi Paris . Shortly before she left the joint publishing house, Lowien published in her book Female Productive Power , Is There Another Economy? - Experiences in a left project also a critical review of the publishing work as “a document about the many contradictions and difficulties that one had to endure in a left collective. At the same time it was her farewell greeting ”. The work was part of the Stammheim library of the first generation of the RAF imprisoned in Stammheim .

From 1986 to 1988 Merve Lowien was on the board of the New Society for Literature .
