The Ceratites (Ceratitida) are early Mesozoic ammonites . They form the fifth of a total of nine orders of the subclass Ammonoidea . After their appearance in Upper Perm , they make up the largest proportion of the Triassic amonoids. A characteristic feature of the case is the fine-toothed praise lines . From the Ceratites, the Ammonitida , the "real ammonites", developed in the Jura and in the Cretaceous .
