Metallers who stare at breasts is a low-budget film by Thorsten Hänseler (mainly moderation and direction ) and Dmitry April (mainly camera and direction) from 2010. The film was officially produced by "Offenen Kanal Bad Offenbach", OKBO for short. He shows the filmmakers with three other friends during a stay at the Wacken Open Air Festival.

The film had its cinema premiere on May 5, 2011. The plan was to show it in selected cinemas by July 31, 2011.

The title of the film is obviously related to men staring at goats . In terms of content, however, there are no obvious similarities.

Content and style of the film

The film doesn't follow any actual plot. Rather, the aim of the film is to convey the mood at the festival in Wacken with the help of the film medium. At the same time, this mood and the stay in Wacken in general are questioned from the off in the style of New Journalism . To achieve this, numerous simple festival participants are interviewed during the course of the film, with Thorsten Hänseler standing next to the participants with a microphone and asking them questions. At the same time, Dmitry April does not hold back behind the camera and is not afraid - even during the shoot - to violate all generally applicable laws of camera work by yelling into the film, panning the camera arbitrarily or in short (probably for the sake of convenience) holds unfavorable angles. The absurd situations created in this way presumably represent the essence of the film. During the entire film, not one band is shown, the protagonists - besides the filmmakers and their companions - are the festival participants themselves.

Movie reviews

The film received a positive response from the critics. Michael Meyns writes on programmkino.de: “(...) Despite an actual non-existent plot,“ Metallers staring at breasts ”never gets boring, the absurdity of the situations, the obvious fun that everyone involved has just as much a contributing factor nice comment. The pictures are commented on with mock amazement and a lot of irony, which works so well mainly because you notice that neither filmmakers nor other visitors to the metal festival take themselves too seriously. They are always aware of the absurd, almost anachronistic of their behavior during these days and that is precisely why it is so much fun to watch them. (...) "

Eckhard Heck enthusiastically introduces his criticism as follows: “Metallers who stare at breasts crash into the middle of the rather cold, wet summer 2011 slump like a fat ass bomb. The meteoric success of the fun documentary launched in May comes as a surprise even for the makers. (...) "

Sebastian Betzold wrote: "(...) What makes this festival documentary so appealing is that it can be seen at every moment that real fans were at work here. (...)"

Spiegel Online summarized the film in a short review / short description as follows: "How five normal men become a can-beer-driven bunch of headbangers during the famous heavy metal festival in Wacken, this amusing documentary shows more, sometimes less tastefully."
