The Metavolcanic Mountain is a 2480  m high mountain with a summit plateau in the west Antarctic Marie-Byrd-Land . It rises 8 km north of Hatcher Bluffs on the eastern flank of the upper section of the Reedy Glacier .

The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. It was named at the suggestion of the geologist and glaciologist John H. Mercer (1922–1987) from the Institute for Polar Research (now the Byrd Polar Research Center ) at Ohio State University who worked in the area around this mountain. It is named after the dark metavolcanic rock of the mountain, which contrasts strongly with the light granite rock of the surrounding formations.
