Methanobrevibacter gottschalkii is an anaerobic , methanogenic archaeon that occurs in the gastrointestinal tract of many mammals .
features
The anaerobic coccus is approximately 0.9 µm long and 0.7 µm wide. He's gram positive . Its thick, multi-layered cell wall is made up of pseudomurein . It usually occurs in neutral solutions . Its temperature optimum is 37–39 ° C. Cells of the type which adolescents in the rumen are catalase negative .
properties
The organism utilizes hydrogen and carbon dioxide , which are excreted as metabolic products by other microorganisms in the intestinal flora . M. gottschalkii forms methane from this with energy gain . The archaeon is one of the hydrogenotrophic methane producers .
External system
The M.gottschalkii is an archaeaon of the Euryarchaeota . He belongs to the methane producers .
