Metropol is a German rock band . It existed from 1977 to 1986 and came together again in 2004.

history

When the Berlin amateur rock band Opus broke up at the end of 1976 , the two Opus musicians Reinhard Tesch and Axel Gröseling founded the amateur band Metropol . Shortly after the band was founded, Metropol made a name for itself as a live band. The group covered international hits e.g. B. from Toto and Status Quo .

In 1981 Metropol rose to the professional level . From then on, it was not only the fans who were interested in the band, but also the GDR radio station became aware of the group. He made it possible for the musicians to produce their first own songs in their studios. The resulting song Yesterday's Snow took 13th place in the annual ranking in 1981. Just one year later, AMIGA released the first single, And I see me after you . Released in 1982, this song became the band's biggest hit, staying in top spots in rating programs for weeks. The song took 6th place in the annual ranking.

At the end of 1983 there was a great change in personnel within the band. After the departure of band leader and composer Reinhard Tesch (now living in Orlando (Florida) ), who founded his own project with Tesch & Co , Axel Gröseling was the last remaining founding member. He found new comrades in Ralf Kricke (drums), Carsten Große (guitarist and singer) and Manfred Kusno (keyboard). In this line-up, other titles were created on the radio in the GDR, including a. also the song Es urges the time , with which the band participated in Rock for Peace in 1984 .

Numerous TV appearances followed, which made the band popular across the country. The quartet single Du wart auf mich was released in 1987 by AMIGA . Tours at home and abroad and publications on records, CDs and DVDs underline the level of awareness of Metropol to this day . The band's enthusiastic concerts at events such as Hanse-Sail Rostock , city festivals in Leipzig , Chemnitz , Weimar , Dresden and Berlin also contribute to this.

In 2010, And I see myself after you was voted one of the 100 best titles from two decades. In May 2013, SONY Entertainment released Und Ich seh'n mich nach Dir - Die Metropol Hits, a seven-track best of album that was available as a download, but not on record or CD.

With the line-up Axel Gröseling (bass, vocals), Reinhard Tesch (guitar, vocals), Manfred Kusno (keyboards) and Ralf Kricke (drums), the group will record the new Metropol album in 2014 , which will be ready by the end of the year. For this purpose, 11 new songs are planned, which follow on from the pieces on the quartet single released by AMIGA in 1987 , but are arranged in a contemporary sound. The new album, produced in Orlando and Berlin , was created in a project across the Atlantic . Jam sessions and rehearsals took place in Berlin. Ashley Duve (singer), Caleb Lopez (saxophone) and Reinhard's son Marius Tesch (guitar, piano) were guest musicians in the studio .
