Fritz Meyer-Struckmann (born August 16, 1908 in Charlottenburg , † October 28, 1984 in Essen ) was a German banker and lawyer .

Life

Fritz Meyer-Struckmann was born in Charlottenburg as the son of the Supreme Court Councilor Heinrich August Louis Meyer and Theodore Anna Marie Struckmann. On November 16, 1908, he was baptized Protestant in the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Charlottenburg . Meyer-Struckmann was one of four children who came from the marriage between Heinrich Meyer and Anna Struckmann. The firstborn Gerhard was born in 1904, but died seven years later of consumption . The older sister Margarete was born in 1905. His second sister Hildegard was his twin sister.

On May 15, 1926, Fritz Meyer enrolled at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . Here and after moving to Berlin in August 1927, he studied law and political science . In Tübingen he belonged to the student association "Saxonia Tübingen", today "Sachsenhaus Tübingen".

After the Second World War , he became a personal assistant to Hermann Josef Abs . In 1949 he became a general representative at the Essen bank Burkhardt & Co. and ten years later also a co-owner. Until his retirement from his profession, he was personally liable partner of this private bank, which merged with the CGTrinkaus bank in Düsseldorf in 1972.

Foundation, endowment

In 1961 he founded the foundation named after him in Essen. In 1977 he appointed Karl-Wilhelm Reichsgraf Finck von Finckenstein (1923–2010), Hans Helmut Kuhnke (1907–1997), Dieter Spethmann , Eberhart Krameyer (1921–1993) and Carl Gottfried Schmidt (1923–2003) as members of the board. From October 28, 1984, Karl-Wilhelm Reichsgraf Finck von Finckenstein from Bankhaus Trinkaus & Burkhardt became chairman of the board.

Meyer-Struckmann's extensive fortune, which mainly consisted of securities and participations, flowed into the “Dr. Meyer Struckmann Foundation ”and made it the second largest single foundation in the“ Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft eV ”. In its function as heiress of Meyer-Struckmann's assets, the foundation has the task of fulfilling a charitable purpose . This consists of the promotion of science and research, especially the cultural and human sciences, the support of university projects, the establishment of scholarships, the support of educational work with young people and projects of various cultural institutions, such as the Folkwang Museum in Essen .

From 1958 to 1984 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom .

The Dr. Meyer Struckmann Foundation awarded three sponsorship awards:

  • Dr. Eberhart Krameyer Prize : In order to award Dr. Eberhart Krameyer and his services to the Dr. Meyer Struckmann Foundation was awarded the “Dr. Eberhart Krameyer Prize ". This prize was awarded for the most outstanding work in the course of the study fundamentale at the University of Witten / Herdecke and endowed with 5000 DM annually for a period of ten years. In addition to an excellent scientific work, such work in the artistic field was later rewarded.
  • Dr. Meyer-Struckmann-Wissenschaftspreis : This prize for outstanding achievements in science and research was endowed with 30,000 DM annually in 1998 with a term of ten years and advertised nationwide. After the term was extended by another five years, the price expired in 2013. The subject areas are based on the core research areas of the Brandenburg University of Cottbus , which include landscape development, energy-efficient systems, new materials, vehicle and drive technology, modeling and simulation, and information technology.
