Mićo Mićić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Мићо Мићић ; born September 6, 1956 in Bijeljina , Yugoslavia ; † December 23, 2020 in Banja Luka , Bosnia and Herzegovina ) was a Bosnian politician ( Srpska Demokratska Stranka , from March 2020: Stranka demokratske ) .

Life

Mićić graduated from the University of Sarajevo with a degree in sports science in 1981 and then worked as a sports teacher at schools in Kalesija and Bijeljina until 1996 . Afterwards he was head of the war disabled department in the city administration of Bijeljina.

In the Republika Srpska he was Minister for Refugees and Displaced Persons in the government of Mladen Ivanić from 2001 , then from 2004 to 2005 Minister for Labor and War Disabled in the government of Dragan Mikerević . After a brief stint as Director of the Pension Insurance of the Republika Srpska, he was elected Mayor of Bijeljina in 2005 and then re-elected several times, most recently in 2016.

In March 2020, Mićić was expelled from the SDS; according to his own statements, because he put the interests of the city above the interests of the party. He then founded the Stranka demokratske Srpske Semberija party and became its chairman. In the mayoral election on November 15, 2020, Mićić lost to Ljubiša Petrović , the SDS candidate.

On November 26, 2020, Mićić was tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and brought to the University Hospital of Banja Luka, where he was connected to a ventilator from December 2, 2020 . He died there three weeks later.
