- Berlin / Germany : The new State Treaty on Gambling comes into force.
- Berlin / Germany : At the request of the Federal Constitutional Court , Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is temporarily suspending the execution of the law adopted by the Bundestag and approved by the Bundesrat to implement the reform of the Treaty on the European Stability Mechanism .
- Brussels / Belgium : Slovenia takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union
- Paris / France : After the finance ministers of the G7 countries had already agreed at the beginning of June on the cornerstones of a globally applicable minimum taxation for large international companies in order to prevent tax dumping in view of the increasing digitalization of the economy, 130 of 139 agree under the umbrella of the OECD - Project Inclusive Framework on Base Erosion and Profit Shifting about solutions to the problem negotiating states on the fundamentals of a comprehensive tax reform that includes a worldwide minimum tax rate for such corporations of 15%. The 130 countries, including all members of the group of the twenty most important industrial and emerging countries , represent around 90% of global gross domestic product . So far, Ireland , Hungary , Estonia , Barbados , St. Vincent and the Grenadines , Kenya , Nigeria , Peru and Sri Lanka have not given their consent .

- New York City / United States : Cyber criminals launch a large-scale cyber attack with ransomware on VSA servers of the company Kaseya .

- Brussels / Belgium : In the European Union , the deadline for transposing Directive 2019/904 / EU on reducing the impact of certain plastic products on the environment (single-use plastic directive) into national law ends . From now on, it should be prohibited in the member states of the European Union to use these plastic products (including cotton swabs, disposable cutlery and plates, drinking straws, stirring sticks and balloon sticks, to-go food containers and beverage cups made of expanded polystyrene and products made of oxo-degradable plastic ) Bring traffic.

- Damishi / Nigeria : During the night, armed attackers kidnap several dozen boarding school students from the Bethel Baptist High School in the local government area of Chikun in the northern Nigerian state of Kaduna .
- Paris / France : Reporters Without Borders publishes the new list of enemies of press freedom . With Viktor Orbán , a head of government from the European Union is represented for the first time.

- Amsterdam / Netherlands : The investigative journalist Peter R. de Vries is gunned down in the street and seriously injured. He dies nine days later.
- Palana / Russia : When approaching the city's airport , an Antonov An-26 of the regional airline Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Air Enterprise crashes ; all 28 people on board die.

- Port au Prince / Haiti : The Haitian President Jovenel Moïse is assassinated in the early hours of the morning. Prime Minister Claude Joseph takes over the official business on a provisional basis.

- Rio de Janeiro / Brazil : The final of the Copa America between defending champions Brazil and Argentina will take place in the Maracanã Stadium .
- Venice / Italy : The finance ministers of the group of the twenty most important industrialized and emerging countries (G 20) decide on a global tax reform with minimum taxes of 15% for large companies.

- Brussels / Belgium : The European Commission is presenting a first package of reformed and new EU directives and regulations under the name Fit for 55 , with which the goal anchored in the European Green Deal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the EU by at least 2030 The aim is to reduce 55 percent and make Europe climate neutral by 2050.
- Johannesburg / South Africa : More than 200 people are killed in the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng in violent riots that have been going on for days after the arrival of former President Jacob Zuma . Shops are looted and partly set on fire. Military supports the outnumbered police force.
- Washington, DC / United States : In the White House, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is received by US President Joe Biden on one of her last trips abroad . The focus of the discussions is inter alia. dealing with the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline .

- Düsseldorf and Mainz / Germany : One of the biggest storms of the post-war period occurred in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate . A flood after the storm "Bernd" caused severe devastation and claimed more than 160 lives. Belgium, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland are also affected.

- Taipei / Taiwan : The Taiwanese government announces that it will open a representative office in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius . It is the first representative office in the European Union to have Taiwan on its behalf.
- Zhengzhou / China : After heavy rains, at least 33 people are killed by flooding in Henan province . 376,000 people have been evacuated. The government announces emergency aid for Henan.

- Nyingchi / China : With President Xi Jinping , a Chinese head of state is visiting the Autonomous Region of Tibet for the first time in 30 years .

- Dushanbe / Tajikistan : In response to Afghan security forces who fled the Taliban offensive to Tajikistan , President Emomalij Rahmon holds the largest military exercise in the country's history. The aim is to secure the southern border with Afghanistan. 130,000 reservists are mobilized for the military exercise.
- Kandahar / Afghanistan : Following the violent takeover of the Spin Boldak district in southern Afghanistan by the Taliban , over 100 civilians are shot dead for no apparent reason.

- Leverkusen / Germany : In the morning there is a serious explosion in the tank farm of the Currenta waste disposal center in Chempark , Wiesdorf district near Bürrig. At least two people die; more than 30 are injured.
