- Brussels / Belgium : After the EU food authority classified yellow mealworms as safe, the EU member states approved them for use in food. - Sheffield / United Kingdom : With a victory over Shaun Murphy , the Englishman Mark Selby wins the snooker world championship for the fourth time .
- Tahoua / Niger : 16 Nigerien soldiers are killed in an attack on a military patrol.

- Laschkar Gah / Afghanistan : Afghan troops put down a military offensive by the Taliban , which is trying to bring the region under their control in the southern Afghan province of Helmand in the course of the withdrawal of international troops.

- Düsseldorf / Germany : The Ansaar International association is banned.
- Columbia / United States : A man kidnaps a school bus and gets out after a few kilometers - presumably overwhelmed - because the school and kindergarten children ask him all sorts of questions about the kidnapping, almost none of which he can answer. - The Hague / Netherlands : Dominic Ongwen, former leader of the LRA in Uganda is to 25 years in prison sentenced . He was found guilty of 61 cases by the International Criminal Court in February of crimes against humanity . The fact that Ongwen was not only a perpetrator but also a victim of the LRA was taken into account to mitigate the sentence: he was kidnapped by the LRA at the age of nine and used as a child soldier .
- Edinburgh / United Kingdom : In the parliamentary elections in Scotland in 2021 , the ruling Scottish National Party (SNP) under Nicola Sturgeon just missed an absolute majority.
- Malé / Maldives : Former President Mohamed Nasheed and four other people are injured in a bomb attack .

- Rio de Janeiro / Brazil : 25 people are killed in a police operation against gangs like the Comando Vermelho in the Jacarezinho favela .
- Saint Helier / Jersey : The dispute over fishing rights in the English Channel between France and the United Kingdom escalates. Dozens of French fishing boats block the port of Saint Helier on the Channel Island of Jersey, Great Britain sends warships to patrol the archipelago.

- Alpharetta / United States : The largest pipeline operator in the USA, Colonial-Pipeline , was attacked by a cyber attack and had to take its systems offline as a result. According to the Darkside cracker group , to which the attack is attributed, it is an apolitical act.
- Dresden / Germany : Pegida is classified by the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Saxony as a "proven extremist endeavor" and will be monitored in the future.
- Jerusalem / Israel : Clashes between Palestinians and the Israeli police in East Jerusalem injure over 170 Palestinians.

- Datu Paglas / Philippines : At least 80 to 100 rebels from the Islamist militant faction of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters storm the market square of Datu Paglas, a city in Mindanao , and force the evacuation of many residents. - Kazan / Russia : At least eight people are killed and 20 injured, six of them life-threatening, in an attack on a school in Kazan. The 19-year-old shooter is arrested. Rumors about another perpetrator turn out to be false.

- Berlin / Germany : The Federal Cabinet passes the first law amending the Federal Climate Protection Act . It is intended to implement the requirements of the Federal Constitutional Court , which at the end of April declared parts of the original law unconstitutional because it did not contain any reduction targets for the period from 2030 onwards. The amendment also tightens the existing goals for the period up to 2030, especially for the industrial and energy sectors. The governing coalition has not yet agreed on concrete measures for how the goals should be achieved.
- Freetown / Sierra Leone : According to statements by Justice Minister Umaru Napoleon Koroma, the government of Sierra Leone plans to abolish the death penalty . The last execution took place in 1998.
- Kabul / Afghanistan : Afghan authorities confirm that the Taliban have taken control of the strategically important Nirkh district in Wardak province west of Kabul.
- Stuttgart / Germany : Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann is re-elected in the state parliament , exactly ten years after his first election as Prime Minister. The Kretschmann III cabinet is then sworn in.
- Taipei / Taiwan : Taiwan increases the corona warning level to "two" (out of a maximum of four) because the origin of some new infections could not be traced. On May 12, Taiwan had 0.43 new corona infections per 1 million population (for comparison: Germany had 135.96 new corona infections per 1 million population on May 12). People in Taiwan are now required to wear masks everywhere outdoors; A maximum of five people may meet indoors and a maximum of ten people outdoors.
