- Munich / Germany : The Archdiocese of Munich and Freising announces that Archbishop Reinhard Cardinal Marx has offered Pope Francis his resignation as Archbishop. He justifies the step with the "catastrophe of sexual abuse by officials of the church in the past decades", for which he wants to assume joint responsibility.
- Oberhofen am Thunersee / Switzerland : The Swedish-British businessman Johan Eliasch is elected to succeed Gian Franco Kasper as President of the International Ski Federation .
Saturday 5th June 2021
- Linz / Austria : The prizes are awarded at the Crossing Europe film festival .
- Yagha / Burkina Faso : In a suspected early morning attack by jihadists on the post of Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland and then on civilians in Solhan , at least 160 people are killed as well as several houses and the Market burned down. The evening before, 13 civilians and one soldier had been killed and the village ransacked in an attack on the town of Tadyarat in the same province near the borders with Mali and Niger.
- Ulm / Germany : An arson attack is carried out on the synagogue in Ulm .

- Munich / Germany : The disaster in Bavaria in the wake of the Covid 19 pandemic has been lifted.
- Daharki / Pakistan : At least 63 people die in a railway accident and at least 150 are injured. The Millat Express derailed between the Raiti and Obaru train stations at night and several wagons fell onto the adjacent track. The Sir Syed Express , which was running in the opposite direction shortly afterwards , crashed into the derailed train.
- Vienna / Austria : Wolfgang Brandstetter resigns as judge at the Constitutional Court .
- International: As part of the police “ Operation Trojan Shield ” (also known as “Operation Ironside” in the region), which is directed against organized drug-related crime, searches are carried out in at least 16 countries, around 800 suspects are arrested and 15 tons of drugs are seized.

- San Salvador / El Salvador : The legislative assembly of El Salvador passes a law with which the country will be the first in the world to recognize Bitcoin as another official means of payment with effect from September 7, 2021 .

- Berlin / Germany : The public festival of the Berlinale opens with the film Der Mauritanier by director Kevin Macdonald .
- Berlin / Germany : The Bundestag resolves to set up a foundation “Places of the German History of Democracy”.
- Calgary / Canada : The company TC Energy announces that it is giving up its controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline project, which is largely planned for US territory .
- Tel Aviv / Israel : Israel is the first country to ban the fur trade . Scientific and religious purposes (e.g. production and sale of the Schtreimel ) are excluded. The ban will come into force in six months.

- Berlin / Germany : The Bundestag elects Evelyn Zupke as the new federal commissioner for the victims of the SED dictatorship . The newly created institution is to replace the Stasi records authority , whose files and staff will be transferred to the Federal Archives .
- Milton Keynes / UK : The Austrian Albin Ouschan wins the World Cup in 9-Ball - Pool .
- Strasbourg / France : The European Parliament decides a failure to act against the European Commission initiate when the application of which came into force at the beginning of the EU rule of law mechanism (so-called Konditionalitätsmechanismus) further delaying. This mechanism is intended to counter violations by member states of the rule of law laid down in Article 2 of the EU Treaty by reducing funds from the Community budget if the violations threaten to misuse the funds. Poland and Hungary , accused of such violations and abuse, are suing the mechanism before the European Court of Justice because the EU has no power to define the rule of law and only "objective and concrete conditions" for the allocation of money from the EU budget "should apply. They had also threatened to block important EU budget decisions. In order to avert this, the heads of state and government of the other EU members had admitted to the two states that the EU Commission would wait for the outcome of the lawsuit before using the mechanism.
- Paris / France : President Emmanuel Macron announces that he will end the military operation Barkhane , led by France and which has been running since 2014 to combat Islamist terrorism in the Sahel , and gradually withdraw the majority of the 5,100 French soldiers currently stationed in Mali . Instead, France's participation in the European Takuba Task Force is to be increased. On the other hand, German Chancellor Angela Merkel ruled out the withdrawal of the Bundeswehr troops deployed as part of the UN military mission Minusma and the European training mission Mali at the end of May .
- London / United Kingdom : A group of more than 450 internationally active investors, who together represent $ 41 trillion in fixed assets, announced a public appeal coordinated by the UK Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change ahead of the 2021 G7 Summit and in the run-up to the UN Climate Change Conference in 2021, called on governments around the world to immediately set more ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets in their countries to protect the global climate and to take more energetic implementation measures so that warming can be limited to 1.5 degrees. Signatories include UK asset managers Aviva, HSBC Asset Management, Legal and General Investment Management and M&G, as well as Allianz Global Investors, Amundi, Axa, BNP Paribas, Nomura Asset Management, State Street Global Advisors, Fidelity International, Pimco, CalPERS and California State Teachers Retirement System. The world's two largest asset managers BlackRock and Vanguard as well as JP Morgan , Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon , all of them US companies , have not signed .

- Jerusalem / Israel : The Israeli parliament, the Knesset , votes in a special session on their confidence in the proposed new Bennett-Lapid government , which is to replace Benjamin Netanyahu , who has been in power since 2009, and his cabinet . This is followed by the swearing-in of the ministers and the election of the new parliamentary president (“speaker”).

- Naypyidaw / Myanmar : The trial against the head of government Aung San Suu Kyi , who was disempowered in a military coup, begins.
- Brussels / Belgium : NATO summit , for the first time with US President Joe Biden and for the last time with Chancellor Angela Merkel . The main topics are the course against the People's Republic of China, which has risen to become a military world power, threats from Russia, the NATO 2030 reform initiative , the revision of the strategic concept, the increase in the budget and the expansion of political consultations within the alliance.
