Ingeborg Bachmann Prize 2021

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ingeborg Bachmann Prize 2021 is the 45th competition for the literature prize as part of the Days of German-Language Literature .

history

The event took place from June 16-20 , 2021 . The reading competition was carried out in the ORF regional studio in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee due to the corona pandemic in a hybrid format: the jurors met for their discussions without an audience in the studio, while the readings were recorded and played in advance, as in 2020.

The Klagenfurt speech on literature was given by the former juror and jury chairman Hubert Winkels under the title Klagenfurt speech on literary criticism .

Authors

Those invited to the reading were announced on May 20, 2021. The reading order was drawn on June 16, 2021.

First reading day

Second reading day

Third reading day

For Fritz Krenn this is the second participation after 1992 . At that time he received the 3sat scholarship. Heike Geißler first took part in the competition in 2008 .

Jurors

In 2021, Vea Kaiser and Mara Delius joined the jury compared to the previous year , replacing Hubert Winkels and Nora Gomringer as jury members. Insa Wilke took over the chairmanship of the jury from Hubert Winkels.

Prices

The previous voting mode was retained for the award of prizes; however, the handover took place virtually. On June 20, 2021, the jury announced a shortlist of seven names, from which the prizes were then awarded in a public vote. The shortlist included Dana Vowinckel, Julia Weber, Necati Öziri, Anna Prizkau, Leander Steinkopf, Timon Karl Kaleyta and Nava Ebrahimi.

criticism

The author Heike Geißler criticized the work of individual jury members in an interview with Deutschlandfunk Kultur . The discussion about her contribution was "unfair and not related to the text at all". That would have been the least the jury should have done, "especially when you are so prominent". Philipp Tingler's comment that he could write a text like hers “just during the lunch break” was “absurd”. It was "adventurous" for her to be part of the competition.
