Necati Öziri (born December 2, 1988 in Datteln , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German writer and dramaturge .

Life

Necati Öziri, the son of Turkish parents, grew up with his single mother in the Ruhr area . After graduating from high school, he studied German , modern German literature and philosophy in Bochum , Istanbul , Olsztyn and Berlin on a scholarship from the Heinrich Böll Foundation . At times he taught formal logic at the Ruhr University . In 2010 he came to Berlin-Kreuzberg with actors from Ballhaus Naunynstraßein touch, which sparked his previously little interest in the theater. He liked that there were characters on stage who shared his own reality. He decided to train in dramaturgy at the Akademie der Autodidakten, a Berlin talent factory for second-generation migrants, and began to publish in literary magazines.

In 2013 Öziri received the offer to work as a dramaturgy assistant at the Maxim-Gorki-Theater , which from this time onwards, under the direction of Shermin Langhoff and Jens Hillje , dealt with transcultural issues. From 2014 to 2017 he was part of the dramaturgy of the Gorki Theater, two years of which as head of the experimental stage (Studio Я). During this time his first piece, Foreskin , premiered at Ballhaus Naunynstrasse ; further dramatic works followed in the next few years. Since 2017 he has worked as a dramaturge at the Theatertreffen of the Berliner Festspiele and artistic director of the International Forum. In the 2020/21 season he was also in-house author at the Nationaltheater Mannheim . In addition to his work as an author and dramaturge, Öziri formulated his ideas about contemporary political theater in lectures and interviews. In October 2017 he said at the 45th Römerberg Talks :

“If racism, classicism or sexism are systems that organize a space, then theaters, operas and cultural institutions have to become spaces that are organized differently. There have to be small windows through which we can look into a possible world, there have to be small model cities of the open society or, as Foucault would call them, “ heterotopias ”, different places. [...] In the times of spiritual arsonists who divide people, political theater is an invitation to get to know one another, to overcome the limits of one's own body. "

In 2021 Öziri was invited by the juror Insa Wilke to the 45th Days of German-Language Literature (Ingeborg Bachmann Prize), where he read his prose text Tomorrow I Wake Up and Then Life Begins . There he won the Kelag Prize and the Audience Prize.

With the drama foreskin , Necati Öziri and his co-authors Tunçay Kulaoğlu and Miraz Bezar intervened in the debate about male circumcision for religious and cultural reasons. The piece, which "brings up the question of the foreskin regardless of sensitivities or limits of shame," makes use of satirical and grotesque means.

Öziri's first independent work Get Deutsch or Die Tryin ' was created in a writing workshop run by Maxi Obexer and Marianna Salzmann and premiered in 2017 on the main stage of the Maxim Gorki Theater. Like a music album, the piece contains an A and a B side . In the first part, driven by a hip-hop rhythm, it draws a generation portrait of disaffected young people with a migration history, while in the second part one of the protagonists, the young Turk Arda (played by Dimitrij Schaad in Berlin ), moves directly at a significantly slower pace turns to the absent father and tells the story of his parents. The production, directed by Sebastian Nübling , received very good reviews. She was invited to the Heidelberger Stückemarkt 2018.

In 2019 Öziri's work The Engagement in St. Domingo - A Contradiction , based on the novel of the same name by Heinrich von Kleist , premiered at the Schauspielhaus Zurich . Öziri declared that he wanted to correct "German, male classics":

“I try to tell the same story, ie with the same characters, in the same historical constellation and then I see which“ operations ”I have to carry out so that I can tell this narrative in an anti-racist and anti-sexist way? The interesting thing about this process for me is that I have to precisely locate and edit the suppressing tools using this method. "

“As a spectator” you stay tuned, judged Alexandra Kedves for the Tages-Anzeiger , when things get “very complicated” and “a lot is tried”. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung, on the other hand, described the production, for which Sebastian Nübling was again responsible, as a “miracle of lightness”, as “elegant and undogmatic”.

A continuation of the critical examination of Kleist's work, in particular with the constructions of masculinity, was to take place with Öziri's play Gott Vater Einzeleltäter at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, but the premiere planned for January 2021 was postponed indefinitely due to corona .
