Ingeborg Bachmann Prize 1989
The Ingeborg Bachmann Prize 1989 was the 13th competition for the literature prize. The event took place in the Klagenfurt ORF theater of the Carinthia regional studio .
For the first time, the entire reading of the competition, including all discussions, was broadcast live on television, which became a dominant topic in the reporting. Ulrich Weinzierl spoke in the FAZ of a “group excursion into the media future, nothing more”. The submission of the participants to “merciless schedules” that he observed and their final processing into “media fodder” should not remain an excursion, but become a permanent condition. This year, the accredited journalists awarded the 3sat prize to the broadcasting station for the first time .
The new governor of Carinthia, Jörg Haider ( FPÖ ), insisted on attending the event; However, those present acknowledged his appearance with "thunderous silence".
