Hansjörg Schertenleib (born November 4, 1957 in Zurich ) is a Swiss writer and translator .

Life

Hansjörg Schertenleib grew up in Zurich. From 1974 to 1978 he trained as a typesetter and typographer . From 1975 to 1980 he attended the Zurich School of Applied Arts . He stayed for a long time in Norway , Denmark , Vienna and London . He has been a freelance writer since 1981. In the early 1980s he worked as a film and music critic for various magazines. 1992/1993 he worked as a resident author at the Theater Basel . In 1996 he emigrated to Donegal , Ireland and decided to take Irish citizenship . From 2005 to 2015 he lived in Ireland and temporarily in Switzerland; since then he has been commuting between Suhr and the US east coast. Schertenleib is the author of prose works , which are praised by the critics for their cool, factual language, of poetry , plays and radio plays . Constant themes in his work are fleeing the confines of his Swiss homeland and being on the move.

Schertenleib's texts are available as translations into Swiss German, French, English, Dutch and Bulgarian.
