Ingeborg Bachmann Prize 2000
The Ingeborg Bachmann Prize 2000 was the 24th competition for the literature prize at the Days of German-Language Literature . The event took place from June 28th to July 2nd, 2000 in the Klagenfurt ORF theater of the Carinthia regional studio .
Isolde Moser and Heinz Bachmann, the siblings and heirs of Ingeborg Bachmann , wrote in a letter to Governor Jörg Haider at the beginning of February in response to the FPÖ- dominated Carinthian state government, which had been in office since 1999, not to continue using the poet's name in the name of the award. "Until we can assume that politics in this country will no longer be shameful and will prove itself worthy of its author, who belongs to world literature". The next day, Haider surprisingly stated that the decision to cancel the state support for the "dead and sterile event" had been made a month earlier. In fact, the state of Carinthia, which had participated since 1985 with a literature prize of 120,000 schillings , withdrew; Instead of the Prize of the Province of Carinthia , an independent platform for Carinthians interested in culture awarded two scholarships.
