Birgit Kempker (* 28. May 1956 in Wuppertal ) is a German writer , lives in Basel and is also the code name Catman as a poet primarily in the art working

Career and working method

Birgit Kempker studied art and literature , theory and practice, in Zurich and Hildesheim . She has been a writer since 1978 . She has worked on exhibitions and theater performances , produces radio plays, net art, installations and videos and works as a lecturer for poetic processes at the Institut Kunst Fhnw Basel, the Swiss Literature Institute Biel and the art course at the F + F School for Art and Design . She lives in Basel.

Birgit Kempker is the author of novels , essays , plays , poems, films and radio plays .

Birgit Kempker works with all artistic means that language allows: in addition to prose and essay, her artistic interventions can also be seen, heard and walked through in exhibitions, performances, audio pieces, song texts. Birgit Kempker is a member of the Visarte . She received u. a. 1985 the Prize of the State of Carinthia at the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt , 1986 a scholarship from the Literary Colloquium Berlin , 1987 a scholarship from the German Literature Fund , 1996 the Swiss Radio Play Foundation Prize and 2000 the radio play prize “ Das Goldene Hörnetz ”. There was a scandal over the book she wrote When I was in bed with a boy for the first time. The reason for this was in 1998 a request for the ban and destruction of this rhythmic prose by Birgit Kempker at the Essen District Court, which met with great press coverage.
