From 1966 she worked as an editor at the Norddeutscher Rundfunk in the Funkhaus Hannover in the “Cultural Word” department. Lindemann was responsible for the series “Journal 3 - For Culture and Criticism”, “Authors read in the Funkhaus Hannover”, and “New Texts”. In the two decades of her editorial work, she made the Funkhaus a point of reference and attraction for authors from all German-speaking countries with her commitment and competence. Jean Améry was one of the most important authors who Gisela Lindemann was responsible for as a radio editor and literary scholar .

In early 1976 she commissioned Améry to write a radio essay for Norddeutscher Rundfunk with the provisional title Der Ehrbare Antisemitismus . Lindemann confronts Améry's work with Erich Fried's revocation critical of Israel Is anti - Zionism anti-Semitism? by sending both texts in opposition despite editorial objections. The controversy was repeated in 1982 when Lindemann after Améry death from whose estate the volume of essays on living - but how? published and in it again reprinted both Améry's text The honorable anti-Semitism and Fried's revocation, which was later criticized as a questionable editorial practice. Lindemann offered numerous authors from the GDR a broad forum on western radio with readings , some of them from previously unprinted works . So did Franz Fühmann , who dedicated his story The Dream of Sigmund Freud to her.

The previously unknown GDR writer Brigitte Burmeister was "discovered" by Lindemann. To juror for the "Berlin Art Prize" by the Academy of Arts awards, Lindemann was appointed twice. In consultation with her fellow jurors Günter Kunert and Gabriele Wohmann , she awarded the Literature Prize for 1981 to the writer Kurt Bartsch . In 1988, together with Eugen Gomringer and Heiner Müller , she chose the Austrian writer Christoph Ransmayr as the winner.

Gisela Lindemann tragically died on a mountain hike in Switzerland on July 24, 1989.
