Windows 11 will be the successor to Windows 10 and was announced by Microsoft Product Manager Panos Panay on June 24, 2021 . The new operating system will appear at the end of 2021.

development

Contrary to the announcement by Jerry Nixon that Windows 10 "is the last version of Windows", Windows 11 follows the Windows 10 generation with its many feature updates according to the information so far.

The operating system was viewed as a service, with new builds and updates to be released over time. However, speculation about a new version or redesign of Windows arose after Microsoft published a job advertisement referring to a "major rejuvenation" of Windows. Allegedly with the code name "Sun Valley" the redesign was intended to modernize the user interface of the system. A beta build of Windows 11 was unofficially leaked from a third party on June 15, 2021.

At the Microsoft Build 2021 developer conference, CEO Satya Nadella spoke of “the next Windows generation” in his keynote. According to Nadella, he had hosted the project himself for several months. He also said there would be an official announcement very soon. Just one week after Nadella's keynote, Microsoft began sending out invitations to a special Windows event on June 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. EDT (5:00 p.m. CEST ). In addition, Microsoft published an exactly eleven-minute video with several extremely slow start-up sounds from older Windows versions.

announcement

A pre-release version had already leaked a week before the announcement , so Microsoft's presentation as Windows 11 was no longer a big surprise. With this, Microsoft is moving away from the plan, which has been represented from 2014, that there will be no other Windows version than Windows 10 and that its further development will be promoted through rolling releases . However, it will be possible to switch from Windows 10 to Windows 11 without additional payment.

particularities

Windows 11 uses rounded corners again for windows.

For the first time since Windows 8 , the Windows logo changes again. It now looks like the Microsoft logo, but in shades of blue.

So far, Windows 11 can also be activated with a license code for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.

As in Windows Vista and Windows 7 , among others , widgets should also return in Windows 11 , which should be able to be placed on the desktop. They currently look like the news field in Windows 10 and cannot be moved or personalized.

The startup sound has also changed again since Windows Vista .

With Windows 11, booting and loading should be significantly faster than with Windows 10. An acceleration of the update process through smaller Windows updates is also planned.

The touch function should be improved and immediately available if the system does not recognize a connected keyboard.

An adapted version of Microsoft Teams is to be integrated into Windows 11 and, among other things, enable video chats or text messages via quick start.
