Windows Embedded 2009 is based on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 and is the successor to Windows XP Embedded . The internal version number is as in Windows XP NT 5.1. Windows Embedded 2009 was released on December 9, 2008. The support ran for Windows Embedded Standard 2009 on January 8, 2019 for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 on April 9, 2019 from. It was the last XP system that received official support from Microsoft .

history

Microsoft originally planned an embedded version of Windows Vista ; However, due to the Longhorn development and the high hardware requirements, this was discarded for reasons of time . So Microsoft decided to release an updated version of Windows XP Embedded under the name Windows Embedded 2009.

Innovations

New features include Internet Explorer 7, Remote Desktop Protocol 6.1, Windows Media Player 11 and .NET Framework 3.5 . Other new functions are cryptography modules, new security functions such as TLS 1.2 and the so-called black hole router detection . Windows Embedded 2009 also includes new modular drivers . Windows Embedded 2009 also contains a new theme that looks similar to the Royale theme from the XP Mediacenter Edition .

Windows Embedded Standard 2009 is the standard version of Windows Embedded 2009. It contains all standard components of Windows Embedded 2009. It is intended for the use of industrial machines and general embedded systems . It consists of over 12,000 components.

Windows Embedded POSReady 2009

Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 is intended for cash register systems and ATMs . There are more adapted components for payment systems. POSReady stands for P oint O f S ervice Ready.
