Carl Paul Nassib (born on 12. April 1993 in West Chester , Pennsylvania is) a US American football player at the position of the defensive ends . He played college football for Pennsylvania State University and has been under contract with the Las Vegas Raiders in the National Football League (NFL) since 2020 . Previously, Nassib also played for the Cleveland Browns and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . In June 2021, Nassib became the first active NFL player to publicly acknowledge being gay .

college

Nassib attended Malvern Preparatory School in Malvern , Pennsylvania . Starting in 2011, he went to Pennsylvania State University as a walk-on to play college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions . First he completed a year as a red shirt , and in 2012 Nassib was not used in any Nittany Lions game. From 2013 he received a scholarship, in the 2013 season he was used in ten games. The following year, Nassib played all 13 games of the season for Penn State. In the 2015 season he was used as a starter in all games, but had to leave two games early due to injury. With 15.5 sacks in one season, he set a record for the Nittany Lions, and he was also able to cause six fumbles . Nassib received numerous awards in the 2015 season. He was named his team's Most Valuable Player , was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Big Ten Conference , won the Lombardi Award , the Ted Hendricks Award and the Lott Trophy, and was elected to the Consensus All-American .

NFL

Nassib was selected 65th in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns . On his NFL debut on the first day of the game, he scored a sack against the Philadelphia Eagles . He broke his hand in the game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2 and was therefore out for the next two games. In total, he came to 2.5 sacks in fourteen games as a rookie. In the 2017 season, Nassib played around 60% of all defensive moves by the Browns and was used as a starter in twelve games, getting three sacks. The Browns ended the season without a win with 16 defeats. As part of the squad reduction to 53 players for the regular season, the Browns dismissed Nassib on September 2, 2018.

After his release in Cleveland, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him on the waiver list . Tampa Nassib played in two seasons each slightly more than half of the defensive snaps and scored six and a half sack in the season 2018 and six sack in the season 2019. In March 2020 signed Nassib a three-year contract for 25 million dollars in Las Vegas Raiders . In his first season for the Raiders, he posted 2.5 sacks as a rotation player.

Personal

Nassib's father Gil played tight end college football for the University of Delaware from 1977 to 1979 , where his younger brother also played as a defensive end. His older brother Ryan Nassib played as a quarterback for Syracuse University and was a replacement quarterback for the New York Giants for several years .

On June 21, 2021 , Nassib came out as gay in a video on Instagram , becoming the first NFL player to publicly acknowledge his homosexuality during his career. At the same time, he announced that he would donate $ 100,000 to the Trevor Project .
