The Trevor Project is a US non-profit organization and operator of the only US-wide 24/7 crisis and suicide telephone counseling for LGBTQ young people , The Trevor Helpline .

history

The organization was founded in 1998 by James Lecesne , Peggy Rajski and Randy Stone , who, in the run-up to the broadcast of their Oscar- winning short film Trevor on HBO, looked for a suitable advice hotline for viewers who, like the main character in the film, are struggling with their sexuality or those around them be rejected and therefore seek refuge in suicide . The Trevor Helpline was supported by The Colin Higgins Foundation and royalty from HBO.
