Michael Andersen

Michael Dahl Andersen (born January 29,  1974 in Copenhagen ) is a former Danish basketball player .

career

Andersen only started playing basketball at the age of 16. From 1993 to 1997 he studied business administration at the University of Rhode Island in the United States and during that time played 117 games for the college's basketball team. The 2.13 meter tall inside player scored an average of 5.5 points as well as 5.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per encounter. After his university days he turned professional and was under contract from 1997 to 1999 with the Greek first division club AEK Athens . In 1998 he reached the final of the European Cup with AEK . In 1999 Andersen moved to Italy to work with Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna for a year . From 2000 to 2002 the Dane Peristeri reinforced Athens , then played again in Italy (Napoli Basket) from 2002 to 2005, before moving to Poland in 2005. Andersen played there for Prokom Trefl Sopot until 2007 and won the championship title twice with the team.

At the beginning of the 2007/08 season he was under contract with Scafati Basket (Italy), but moved to the Polish club Energa Czarni Slupsk during the season . At the end of his professional career, Andersen returned to AEK Athens, after the 2008/09 season he retired as a professional basketball player.

Andersen played in the Danish national team until 2007. After the end of his basketball career, the Dane moved with his family to the United States, worked temporarily as a basketball coach at North Kingstown High School and then founded a company for IT services.
