Michael Andrew Law

Michael Andrew Law (Chinese: 羅卓睿 ; * November 13, 1982 in Hong Kong as Law Cheuk Yui ) is a contemporary artist, painter , film producer , art dealer and owner of the Michael Andrew Law Gallery in Hong Kong.

life and work

Law studied painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing and with the New York painter Dan Anderson. In 2008 he received funding from the Eco Association Ltd. He was a co-founder of the Nature Art workshop. In 2015 he founded the Michael Andrew Law Gallery and the Michael Andrew Law Art School in 2016.

Works

His early work consists mainly of comics published in various publications such as the church newspaper Kung Kao Po . He illustrated a Catholic children's Bible and prayer books.

Figurative works

As a painter, Law created a series of large-format, figurative, surrealistic pictures. Humanity is an oil painting of children in a meadow under a starry sky on Hong Kong Island.

His work was exhibited on the Avenue of Stars and Queen Victoria Street in Hong Kong in 2009 .

Portraits

In addition to biblical subjects, Law dealt with the portraits of protagonists of the Catholic Church such as Pope John Paul II , Pope Benedict XVI. and Mother Teresa .

Portraits for the David Lynch Foundation

The Law exhibition entitled From unmanifest to manifest in the Art of Hyper Pop Surrealism ( From unmanifest to manifest in the art of hyper-Pop Surrealism ) and helps donations for the charity mission of the David Lynch Foundation to gather the spread the to reduce trauma and toxic stress among vulnerable populations around the world using the methods of Transcendental Meditation . The exhibition includes portraits of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi , John Hagelin , David Lynch , Fred Travis and Bob Roth, CEO of the David Lynch Foundation.

Collector

Fernandes Teresita Fernández, former member of the United States Federal Art Commission, Theaster Gates, director of the visual arts department at the University of Chicago, and Marilyn Minter, director of the masters department at the New York Academy of Visual Arts, and other celebrities , including artist-entrepreneurs Jeff Koons , Takashi Murakami and Tony Nader, include Law's works in their private collections. He has participated in group exhibitions around the world, including Art Basel Hong Kong. Law currently lives and works in Hong Kong with partner Michelle Yu Ting-Yan.
