Michael Bernard McPartland

Michael Bernard McPartland SMA (born September 29, 1939 in Middlesbrough , Great Britain; † April 6, 2017 in Watford , Great Britain) was a Roman Catholic priest and from 2002 to 2016 Apostolic Prefect of the Apostolic Prefecture of the Falkland Islands or Malwinen , as well as Superior of Mission sui juris St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha .

Life

McPartland was born in 1939, shortly after the outbreak of World War II, in the north-east of England, in Middlesbrough. He dropped out of school at the age of 15 and worked as a salesman for five years before joining the British Army in 1960 and serving as a soldier for eleven years. McPartland then worked for British Rail until 1973, when he joined the Société des missionaires d'Afrique (SMA). On May 14, 1978, he received the sacrament of ordination . McPartland was then sent to the north of Nigeria . In 1982 he was recalled to the United Kingdom and held administrative duties there for the next 16 years. In June 2001 McPartland was sent to Nairobi , Kenya before Pope John Paul II appointed him Superior of the Mission sui juris St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha and Prefect of the Apostolic Prefecture of the Falkland Islands or Malwinen in August 2002 .

On October 26, 2016, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation as Prefect and Superior.
