Mission sui juris
A mission sui juris (Latin: missio sui iuris , mission in its own right), formerly also called missio independens (independent mission), is a territorial organizational unit in Roman Catholic mission areas that is directly subordinate to the Pope . In terms of canon law , the Mission sui juris is the preliminary stage to a particular Church . Usually this status is followed by that of an Apostolic Prefecture . The Missio sui iuris is not mentioned in either the Codex Iuris Canonici or the Codex Canonum Ecclesiarum Orientalium .
The mission is a professor not a bishop before, but one from the Holy See commissioned priest with episcopal powers, the so-called Apostolic Superior . Since the pastoral care very often in the missions in the hands of a religious community is located, is one of the most superior (not always) religious cleric appointed. In this function, the Apostolic Superior must not be confused with the Superior (Superior) of the Order: the Superior of the Order heads a branch or province of his religious community, while the Superior Apostolic is responsible for the ecclesiastical management of the mission area (which is similar to a particular Church) regardless of its possible functions in the Holds medals.
