The Erzbistum Nassau ( lat. Archidioecesis Nassaviensis ) is on the Bahamas preferred Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Nassau . It includes the state of the Bahamas.

history

Pope Pius XI founded on March 21, 1929 the Apostolic Prefecture Bahama from territory of the Archdiocese of New York . On January 15, 1941, the Apostolic Prefecture was raised to the Apostolic Vicariate and took the name Apostolic Vicariate of the Bahama Islands .

On July 5, 1960, the Vicariate Apostolic Diocese, which took the name Nassau and the Archdiocese of Kingston in Jamaica was raised as a suffragan . The Mission sui juris Turks and Caicos Islands was established on June 10, 1984 from parts of its territory.

With the Apostolic Constitution Ad aptius consulendum it was elevated to a metropolitan bishopric on June 22, 1999 .
