Paul Leonard Hagarty

Paul Leonard Hagarty OSB (born March 20, 1909 in Greene , † September 22, 1984 in Collegeville ) was Bishop of Nassau .

Life

Paul Leonard Hagarty joined the Congregation of the Benedictines at and received on 6 June 1936, the priestly ordination . Pope Pius XII appointed him on June 25, 1950 as Vicar Apostolic of the Bahamas and Titular Bishop of Arba .

He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Delegate in the USA , Amleto Giovanni Cicognani , on October 19 of the same year; Co-consecrators were Peter William Bartholome , Coadjutor Bishop of Saint Cloud , and Stephen Joseph Donahue , auxiliary bishop in New York .

With the elevation to the diocese on July 5, 1960 he was appointed Bishop of Nassau. He attended all the sessions of the Second Vatican Council . On July 17, 1981, he resigned from office.
