Giovanni M. Scalese

Giovanni M. Scalese B (born August 19, 1955 in Rome , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman. He is Superior ecclesiasticus of the Mission sui juris Afghanistan .

Life

Giovanni M. Scalese joined the order of the Barnabites (Clerici regulares S. Pauli decollati or Paulaner). On June 20, 1981 he was ordained a priest . He came from the Roman parish of San Carlo ai Catinari . He studied philosophy (1978) and theology (1980) at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas . He studied Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University (1982) and received a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Bologna (1991). He worked in Florence (Collegio alla Querce), Bologna (Parish of San Paolo Maggiore e Collegio San Luigi), Rome (General Curia of the Barnabites), Tagaytay (Philippines), Bangalore (India) and Naples (Istituto Bianchi). After completing his own diplomatic training, he was sent to Kabul by his order.

Pope Francis appointed him superior of the autonomous mission sui juris in Afghanistan on November 4, 2014 ( Superior ecclesiasticus seu Ordinarius loci ). By decree of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples on the same day, he was appointed chaplain of the mission and received all the rights and powers of a diocesan bishop and apostolic prefect . The inauguration took place on January 11, 2015.
