Michael Boehme (pedagogue)

Michael Boehme , also Michael Behm , Michael Bojkmus and Michael Bojemus (born October 21, 1542 in Pirna , † April 25, 1616 in Torgau ) was a German educator.

Life

After attending the Princely School of St. Afra Meißen , Boehme studied in Leipzig and then Wittenberg . With the acquisition of the master's degree he finished his education in 1572. As a result, Boehme got a job as a teacher at the Thomas School in Leipzig. 1575 he was appointed as deputy head of Torgau called to the Latin School; in November of that year he was given the post of rector. The following year Boehme married the mayor's daughter Justina Jeger (1556–1613) from Freiberg ; several children were born in this marriage.

Boehme's knowledge of Greek and poetry was famous. During his 40-year tenure in Torgau, the Latin school enjoyed a very high reputation; many later well-known scholars were trained here. Before 1615 Boehme wrote a handwritten chronicle of Torgau. This was translated into Latin from 1728-30 by the Leipzig professor Johann Burckhardt Mencke and incorporated into his scriptores rerum germanicarum, praecipuae Saxonicarum . Based on the chronicle, KH Lange published the text in 1997: Magister Michael Böhme = rector and chronicler . In addition to other texts, Boehme published De vita Alberti Animosi in 1587 along with an oration on the death of Elector August of Saxony .
